    J. Ernest DuBois was born on November 19, 1926. He spent his elementary years at school #33. While in high school he was a resident of the Marketview Heights neighborhood where resided on Fair Pl. Mr. DuBois has fond memories of his time at EAST. While in high school he was involved in many activities. Mr. DuBois fondly remembers being in the Spanish honor society for 3 years. He also recalls the name of his favorite English teacher Mrs. Toolan, and classmate Arthur Agnello.  Mr. DuBois graduated from EAST in 1944 and matriculated to the University of Rochester. He was a 1948 graduate and went on to receive his master’s in 1949. Mr. DuBois eventually realized his lifelong goal of becoming a teacher.  He was certified to teach English and social studies, and after spending some time as a substitute started his career at Franklin high school in 1952. For a time Mr. DuBois was part of the social studies department at EAST. He recalls that at one time there was a library dedicated specifically for teachers in that department.  He spent the majority of his career at SWW, where he taught for 25 years. Because of his dedication to the educational community in Rochester Mr. DuBois was an active member of the School #33 PTA. He began as treasurer and eventually became president. He served as vice-president of the Rochester Council of PTAs, and regional director of the Genesee Valley Region PTA. After celebrating his 90th birthday Mr. DuBois’ long-standing commitment to serving the community has not been diminished. He continues to maintain his membership in the League of Women Voters Rochester Metropolitan Area and serve on its education committee.
