Welcome to Loretta Johnson Middle School, named in honor of Loretta Johnson, a trailblazing educator and administrator. Ms. Johnson's remarkable career in the Rochester school district began in 1969 when she moved to Rochester and taught elementary school. She made history by becoming the first woman to lead the district as Interim Superintendent from 1994 to 1995. At Loretta Johnson Middle School, we celebrate her pioneering spirit and dedication to education, striving to empower our students with the same passion for learning and leadership that Ms. Johnson exemplified throughout their career.
Welcome to the future…you are officially in Middle School! Middle School is all about freedom! You get to change classes, you can follow your interests in athletics, arts, clubs, and even coursework. You and your friends will form lifelong bonds as you grow together. As you grow with us!
As the skill set grows, the character strengthens. We are preparing students who will succeed in high school and for a future that will have the intellect to tackle the problems of the world.
One of the unique times in human development occurs during the middle school years. Our middle schools have been designed from the ground up to support your growing child's academic, emotional, and social needs. As you navigate the changes that come with having an adolescent child, please know that you have a strong and committed partner in (X Middle School). Undoubtedly, you want the best for your child and take the time to encourage them on the right path. We do, too, and together we can help make the path for them purposeful, exciting, clear, and even fun!
Ms. Silas-Lee is a graduate of Joseph C. Wilson Magnet High School who began her career with the District 20 years ago as a teacher. She has served as a classroom teacher, math coach, teacher mentor, and principal.
