Columbia University ILAS Resources

K-12 Outreach Program strives to enhance the professional capacity of teachers in a multicultural environment and promote the inclusion of Latin American history and culture into students' classrooms and daily lives. The resources here are a combination of the Consortium of Latin American Studies Nationwide (CLAS) and the Institute of Latin American Studies (IALS). CLAS is a newtwork of colleagues who encourage excellence in teaching and program development; organizes workshops at national and regional conventions; develops curriculum materials; promotes the teaching of less commonly taught languages; recognizes exemplary children’s and young adult literature, and supports K-12 and post-secondary professional development. IALS draws on the expertise and support of faculty and students across Columbia University, the program offers educators resources and opportunities to learn about creative ways of incorporating Latin American history and culture into their curricula.
