Discussing Grief and Loss with Your Child

  • To support our students and staff, each school is staffed with Social Workers and School Counselors who offer personalized support, including mental health referrals for those who may need additional care.

We recognize that conversations about loss and grief—especially in the wake of such a tragedy—can be difficult. To assist families in speaking with their children about suicide and emotional well-being, we have compiled resources that are available below. We encourage you to use these tools to support open and honest discussions at home.

Student Support During Times of Grief and Loss

  • We recognize the social and emotional well-being of our students and staff is critically important. The Rochester City School District (RCSD) has resources and referrals available to address the mental health, behavioral, and emotional needs of our school communities.

Below you will find resources to assist students, staff, families, and community members with understanding what a child goes through when they experience trauma, grief, or loss.
