    Prekindergarten Assessments:

    Brigance Early Childhood Screen

    • Assessment of student performance.
    • Administered individually from late September through October.
    • Developmental screening measuring a child's mastery of early developmental and academic skills to determing school readiness.
    • Data collected from screening should inform instruction (i.e. differentiation for strengths/weaknesses, begin process for seeking supports, etc.)

    Child Observation Record (COR)

    • Assessment of student performance.
    • Narrative observations (or photo and video documentation) and COR item scores, uploaded to HighScopes COR-Advantage platform three times anually (typically November, March, and June).
    • Developmental assessment used to illustrate and record child growth across eight categories: Approaches to Learning; Social and Emotional Development; Physical Development and Health; Language, Literacy, and Communication; Mathematics; Creative Arts; Science and Technology; and Social Studies.
    • Data collected should inform instruction (i.e., small group and large group activities, literature selection, differentiation for strengths and weaknesses, documentation for additional student supprts, etc.) 

    Classroom Assessment Scoring System (CLASS)

    • Assessment of program quality.
    • CLASS observations conducted by an impartial third-party in every classroom during February and March.
    • Observation-based assessment that examines the quality of teacher-child interactions in preschool classrooms across three categories: Emotional Support; Classroom Organization; and Instructional Support.
    • Data collected can be used to reflect and improve upon individual teaching practice, inform and improve instructional support, as well as determine future professional learning opportunities.

    ECERS-3

    • Assessment of program quality.
    • ECERS-3 observations conducted by a team of evaluators in every classroom from February-April.
    • Observation-based assessment that examines the entirety of a preschool program. The rating scale consists of six categories: Space and Furnishings; Personal Care Routines; Language and Literacy; Interaction; and Program Structure.
    • Data collected is used to determine the efficacy of overall programming district-wide. In addition, data collected can be used to reflect and improve upon individual teaching practice and classroom environment, inform and improve instructional supports, as well as determine future professional learning opportunities.

    Teacher Child Rating Scale (T-CRS)

    • Assessment of student performance.
