Inventor of Color TV
I am Guillermo González Camarena. I was born on February 17, 1917, in the city of Guadalajara, Mexico, and passed on April 18, 1965. I was a Mexican electrical engineer who invented a color-wheel type of color television and who also introduced color television to the world. I invented the "Chromoscopic Adapter for Television Equipment", an early color television transmission system. I was only 17. When I was just 23 years old in 1940, I submitted my application in Mexico for a US Patent. I was granted Patent No. 2,296,019 protecting my development of an “improved chromoscopic adapter” using the “Trichromatic” system for color television transmissions. The U.S. patent application (2,296,019) states, "My invention relates to the transmission and reception of colored pictures or images by wire or wireless..." The invention was designed to be easy to adapt to black-and-white television equipment. I applied for this patent on August 14, 1941, and obtained the patent on September 15, 1942. I also filed for additional patents for color television systems in 1960 and 1962. I sold my first set in 1954 for about $1,450.
